Jesus Head? Look closely...

From a web site "Our Strange World".

Strange False Head Photo

posted by Dean Terry
At first this photo seems to be a couple with a large head floating between them. But look again - things aren’t always what they seem.

Most people who look at this old photograph will probably see a large bearded head between the two figures. It looks like an image of Jesus.

You’ll probably think it’s just a crude hoax from bygone days. But look again, carefully. This is not a hoax at all. What the photo actually shows is a child sitting on the man’s knee.

Block out the head’s “hair.” That’s just a collection of foliage in the background. The “eye” is the face the child, shadowed by a large white bonnet. The “nose” is the sleeve of the child’s shirt. And the “mustache” is the child’s arm, bent at the elbow.

Be patient. It may take you awhile to see this.

Some pix from the Game Day

Football Game in Blacksburg

As a general thought, last nights game in VT was good. Very cold. We (the whole family, including the baby) made it till half. I would have liked to stay the whole game. But, the drama of the kids for another 1.5 hours of a sucky showing from the Hokies would not have been worth it.
We started at a tailgate thing from the College of Forestry and Wildlife. Food was decent and it made a starting point before the game. Way stayed at the Inn at Virginia Tech and I though the rooms were nice and bed comfortable. It was great that it was on campus and we could walk to the game. We hoped to take the Blacksburg Transit back to the hotel, but they weren't running when we left :( They say it was the second coldest game in 22 years at VT. I have to say that I remember more crappy weather games than good. Mental note: next time, don't purchase game tickets for late November games with the little kids.
It would have been more worth it if the game was exciting, but it was really ugly football. I'm glad that they gave Glennon the chance in the second half. Tyrod is good as a scrambler, but he is not as good of a thrower and his second read on the pass seems to just run for it. He may be fast, but no Mike Vick.

Quite possibly, the most disfunctional family ever

SCHERERVILLE, Ind. (AP) -- Indiana state police said that after a mother was arrested for drunken driving, the three relatives who came to pick up her 1-year-old son also had all been drinking. A state trooper stopped a minivan for speeding early Saturday on U.S. 30 in Schererville in northwestern Indiana. He arrested the 24-year-old woman on a drunken driving charges.

The boy's father arrived later to pick him up, but officers determined he was intoxicated and also arrested him on a drunken driving charge.

Police said the boy's grandparents then arrived. Both of them also had been drinking, state police said, but the grandmother who was driving was not over the legal limit, so officers escorted them home with the child.

Bad decision

As I prepare to watch a Monday Night football game I actually am interested in, I learn a very disturbing thing. As the producers of MNF continue to make an effort to draw non-football people to their show, we are privileged with another Presidential candidate interview, by ESPN. WORS'T IDEA EVER. Really, isn't this like breaking the role of the separation of church and state or something? On the good side, what nickname will Chris Burmen give these guys?

Halloween parade at Rehobeth Beach

We nearly were washed out. Unlike last year (it was clear when we arrived, only to have the heavens open once we were watching the parade) the rain cleared right before we arrived at the parade. It worked out well. Otherwise we were going to manufacture an event for Nate on Sunday.

Finished renovation

After a few weeks and building (no pun intended) anxiety, the work has been completed.

Renovation progress

The bathroom should be basically done by Friday. Except maybe the shower door which is still on order. The kitchen still has a bit to go. I'm a little concerned about having enough room for the cabinets and oven range at the corner of the fridge. Its all really tight.

Safeway "Organics"

In Maryland, Safeway is one of the main grocery chains. We do get the "O" brand often as an organic choice. But this post from Dvorag.org/blog brings home a point I always stress: Read the Label
So I’m looking at the “organic” Safeway peanut butter and was stunned to read the label. It’s yet another crappy peanut butter that has no peanut oil (removed, sold at a premium and replaced with a cheaper oil) and has added sugar. It’s ridiculous. At our Deli in Port Angeles we sell a peanut butter and jelly sandwich for kids and only use real peanut butter from Adams. This “O” stuff can’t be as good as 100-percent peanuts. But, hey, it’s Organic!

Bursa Sac

So I'm reading this post about Payton Manning and Marvin Harrison of the Colts that have both suffered infected Bursa Sacs. First, I wonder how close these guys must be. And second, any part of the body with the word "sac" in it sounds like a bad thing to have infected.

Ultimate Frisbee notes

So, I now have 3 opportunities for Ultimate in a week. 4, if I could ever make a Saturday. There is the League on Wednesday in Catonsville, pickup on Thursday in Annapolis, and pickup on Sunday in Prince Frederick. I just found the Prince Frederick 2 weeks ago and I'm pretty excited because its the closest venue I've found since we moved to Calvert Cnty.
On the League front, we are 2-1. Lost our first game last night. I can say that my poor play was not alone. For a bunch of 30-40 somethings there were a lot of bad drops and throws. Smart play has been the reason for the dominant wins from the first 2 weeks. I think that our team is at least 10 years older than the average of the other teams. Nonetheless, I'm still not in ultimate shape like I used to be. I walk alot more and my knees hurt this morning. Well, I did just turn 35.

Contractor update

Last night we met the guys from J Squared again. This time the draftsman made it to the house. We still need to wait a few weeks for a price quote. The main bummer was they could not come up with a good way to put a door at the bottom of the steps without some major renovation.

Then there was Hershey

Then we went to Hershey park. We left the baby behind because it was so hot. We felt bad at first for not bringing her, but after the temperature reached the high 90's, we knew we made the right call. I haven't been there in about 30 years. They had some good coasters and the kids had a lot of fun. It would be worth going again. I would say I liked more than Kings Dominion or Six Flags which are also close. Nate and Karen went on this ride ini the pictures. Nate had no idea what would happen or how high. He was not happy.

Dutch Wonderland

Man, it is hot here. We're on holiday with the Kaputa clan this extended weekend. Last trip, we went camping in July and were miserably hot. So, this time we went in June and got a cabin with AC. It's still 95 degrees. Went to Dutch Wonderland on Saturday when we arrived. Heres a few photos.

First Contractor

Met the first contractor for the addition. Josh from J Square. Seemed nice, but hard to say much else. He had some questions for me because they are checking a job out in AA county. The hazard of working at the Permits and Inspections office. We had some bad storms come through tonight and the draftsman couldn't be there. So, they will come back again next week.
On another note, Ultimate Frisbee league was supposed to start tonight and I couldnt make the first game. But they cancelled it anyway because of weather. So I didn't miss out :)

Turning out to be a Heck of a Day

So, it starts out that my brother had an incident last weekend and needs a lawyer. Then, me and my mom forgot that she is taking the dog for the week (we are going on a trip this weekend). So, she nicely decides to fly by my house after she picks up Maryna to get the dog. I then find out that my Mother-in-Law, who is watching the kids at our house, does not have a car seat for Nate. (it's in Karen's car. another story). Later I call my mom with a name and number for a lawyer for my brother. Turns out her car broke down in the middle of the Bay Bridge and was getting towed. Karen is going to the dentist tonight. She might want to watch herself tonight. At least I'm leaving early. (a consquence of the no car seat thing :/ )

Isolated tribe in South America

Check out the link to this article. Its amazing that these tribes can be isolated inthe modern day of GPS and satellites.

Addition?

So the beginnings of an addition to the house are emerging. We have come up with a rough idea of what we want to do. I called 2 contractors that were referred to me in the area. They are supposed to call back.
We'll see.

Day at Great Falls

Nice little day at Great Falls NP. The weather was good. We met Karen's cousin Gina and her friend Ollie. Had lunch, rode a canal boat, and did a little hike to the falls.
